Quick update on my aunt.
She continues to decline cognitively and will "sundown" significantly without meds to help with it (some days even with the meds).
She continues to ask me (sometimes a few times a day), when the hearse will be coming to pick her up.
I believe she is ready to go, but as we have discussed, she is frustrated that after having a life where she controlled every event, now she can't control this final one.
But she has made it clear that she has made her peace with God.
Wonder if asking about the hearse is her way of asking you if she's close to the end. But can't or doesn't know how to properly verbalize it.
Or she knows and is telling you.
Kinda depends on what else she says.
We have talked about her being close to the end and she understands it.
Asking about the hearse is something, I believe, inherent to her character. She is one who has probably never been late to an appointment.
I remind her that something needs to happen before the hearse is called and she will then smile and say "I guess you are right".
It's good to discuss on the outskirts of the issue realizing she understands.
It takes a formidable person to go through the natural process like your aunt and @MMA 's mom, instead of taking the quicker self-help way. As well as the family being beside them holding their hand on the journey.
God's Grace comes through during these times and gets missed when taking a shortcut.
