Happy new year everybody. I'm still here! I take my mom to wound care once a week, I went to San Antonio to visit family for Xmas, and a short day trip to Oklahoma to grab some vintage furniture. These two weeks off from work are filled with.....work! I haven't accomplished nearly anything that I thought I could. I've been trying to clean some "new" vintage furniture for my son's room for almost a month but it's so dirty I have to do piece by piece. I feel I'll never get it all done.

I'm sure it will look great when it's completed but right now I'm in the phase where everything is very messy while I clean the furniture so I'm out of sorts and in a perpetual bad mood. I hate topsy-turvey.

This furniture was a great price but it is the dirtiest I've ever purchased and I've used almost half a bottle of (concentrated) Murphy's Oil Soap already. I still have to scrub out the drawers and shelves of the armoire. I have some major stain repair to do, too. Ugh!

MMA :texasflag:🇺🇸💄

The furniture came from a run-down house that's being sold for 50% of list value for that neighborhood, if it were in decent condition. Walking through, I got the impression that the couple barely could afford the house and never could make any kind of improvements, or even maintain it very well.

Same for their furniture! I'm cleaning literally 50 years of dust and grime off these pieces. In one of the nightstands, I found sticky puddled soda that dried solid. Lazy and inexcusable!

So right now I'm Cinderella, but hopefully I'll be done scrubbing soon and can engage a little more. Can anyone tell me if we had enough contributions to keep FA going? I did chip in, but I know that my little bit wasn't enough to do it. If we're shutting down please tell me what's the plan moving forward.

Best wishes to all for a better 2025. 2024 was one of the most difficult years I've had, even more than the Covid bullshit years. 2025 is getting off to an ominous start though 😬

@MMA Happy New year to you all.

@MMA Last I asked @Bryan we were good thru January due to one time donations. Not sure if we've got enough monthly yet. I did a big one time myself, but will be signing up for a monthly shortly.

@MMA

So nice to see you...🤗

I think they need a bit more $.

Hopefully 2025 will bring relief. 🙏

@MMA We stored a bedroom set in our barn for 22 years. When we moved wife decided she wanted to use it. Cleaning the endless dust, bird crap off the top and mouse droppings/nests out of the drawers was quite the adventure. I too, used Murphy's and in some cases bleach. It took forever but in the end, it turned out quite nice. Boy was it dumb to not cover it with tarps or something.

So hopefully, there is a great deal of satisfaction at the end of a miserable task

@Phil

That's understandable Phil it was in a barn. I can't understand how people can be so filthy IN THEIR OWN HOUSE. How the hell can you knock a soda into your nightstand drawer and not take a few minutes to clean up the mess?

On the positive side, what I paid for the whole set (king headboard, long dresser, 2 mirrors, wardrobe, 2 nightstands) was the cost of ONE mirror on Chairish. It's slightly battered, but structurally sound. Once it's clean it will look so much better.

@MMA

Do you own a truck? How did you haul all that?

@Phil

@nchia @MMA she carries it on her back. Her rack serves as a counter balance.

@MMA It looks like it will be nice. The stuff from the barn was kind of hazy (probably from temp changes affecting the varnish. Anyway, I used finish renew on it and it made it look a whole lot better. You might want to try it. You'll need some very fine steel wool for any particularly bad spots.

@Phil

What's finish renew, Phil? How do you use it? I'm up for anything that works well!

@MMA amazon.com/s?k=restor-a-finish.

It isn't a miracle cure but does improve the appearance reasonably well and can get out water marks

@Phil @MMA

Get out water marks. SOunds like magic.

@EvolLove @MMA it takes some effort. Magic is effortless. Boobs prove this axiom.

@Phil @MMA

I've used Howard's Restore a Finish for years. Love that stuff. When you're using it, the transformation happens right in front of you!!

@MMA we have much to look forward too once Trump gets into office. Do you realize that Jan. 6 is just around the corner?? What theatrics do they have planned for us that day hmmm??? The countdown is on and I’m a bit nervous that they are going to try something big to prevent it.

@Kat

I am trying not to think about that. I have to believe that God is stronger, but these people are crazy and they are going out on a blaze of fury.

@MMA

I feel for you, friend. You are wearing quite a few hats.

I recall a time over a decade ago when we had my frowning Alzheimer's MIL in the downstairs bedroom, my own mother residing post-stroke in her deceased friend's husband's home, and my son giving me major internal conniptions from overt disrespect.

I drove to church midweek for a ladies' meeting with a corrosively heavy heart, pondering what to say to my best friend.

At the church I realized I FORGOT to pick her up.

?!?
