Last night I went to a candlelight #vigil for blah blah #Trump shit in a gazebo in a small town park. I live in a #smallTown (~20K people). There were 30-50 in attendance. I'm 55 and was one of the younger people. There were songs and brief speeches. Talk of how we will vote like crazy next time, etc. It was over in 40 minutes (remember: old people).

I couldn't stop thinking that the League of Women Voters (the organizing body) was hopelessly on the back foot. These people, many of whom I know and protested with during Trump 1, seem to be under the impression we merely have an awful president.

I was crying as I left. I hope I'm wrong, but I couldn't stop thinking

  1. Trump keeps making batshit/hateful "pronouncements" via #ExecutiveOrders, #twitter, and #TruthSocial.

  2. Many/most of those represent violations of law/ #constitution and always arrogation of powers that are legally held by #Congress or #SCOTUS.

  3. Nobody is stopping him.

  4. What do you call a system of government where one asshole says whatever shit comes to his mind or makes him wealthier or makes him more powerful, and he always gets what he wants?

I was crying as I left. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we're in a #dictatorship, now. I think we have a chance to save ourselves from this as a long-term situation, but who is going to do that? Not the #Republicans, who are desperate to kiss Trump's ass harder than each other. And not the #Democrats, if all we do is have 40-minute candlelight vigils in out-of-the-way parks where nobody will be inconvenienced or even have to be aware of what we're doing.

'A real shame': Former Marine says #DOGE cuts tell veterans they’re 'dead weight or a burden' on US
alternet.org/trump-doge-layoff

“Federal #government is a natural fit for a lot of #veterans,” he said. “One of the first things you do when you become a civil servant is you raise your right hand & take the oath to support & defend the #Constitution... And I think it's an extension of our military service to continue serving in the federal govt & looking out for the public interest.”

There Is No Musk Exception in the Constitution
nytimes.com/2025/03/04/opinion

"sovereignty flows from the people & that only officials selected through constitutional methods get to wield power in our name... Protesters at #Tesla showrooms who are displaying signs that say “no one voted for #ElonMusk” are making, intentionally or not, a constitutionally inflected claim...

the document is quite specific when it comes to appointment."

" #Trump signed an executive order putting the #DOGE team in charge of creating new #tech systems to review all payments from the US #government & then giving the head of DOGE the power to review all those payments...

Make no mistake: This order transforms federal spending by taking it away from #Congress, where the #Constitution placed it, and moves it to the individual who sits atop the Dept of Govt Efficiency."

#Trump on Thurs again raised the prospect of serving for an #unconstitutional 3rd term asking a crowd at a WH event whether he should run again & receiving audience chants of “4 more years!”
Trump’s escalating rhetoric stoked further alarm among critics who say he is governing w/an #authoritarian playbook & fear he could attempt to seize #power undemocratically, as he attempted to do after losing the 2020 election. The #Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits presidents from holding the office >2X.

How John Roberts Teed Up Elon Musk’s War on the Court
newrepublic.com/article/191528

"Musk’s strategy w/ #DOGE appears to be to create enough on-the-ground damage... that #Congress, the #courts... can’t readily reverse things. A certain amount of lawlessness is baked into this approach...

#Musk appears hostile to the idea that he can be constrained by a judge at all. He does not seem to know or care how the #Constitution works... After all, he grew up in apartheid-era #SouthAfrica"

If the Trump administration is determined to ignore the constitution and strip the federal government of Conrgressionally- mandated workers, then why should the states allow their banks to transmit federal taxes to Washington, D.C.?

If it's all going out the window, no reason for the states to continue funding illegal behavior by 2 insane billionaires.

I asked ChatGPT to summarize #project2025 for me. I posted the summary in the Political Discussions section of the SF-Fandom Forums.

I added a comment with my perspective on various aspects of the project 2025 agenda.

And I added Rick Wilson's video for MAGA voters ("You're not allowed to act surprised").
