BC: a few new #wind projects in December.

What social attitudes must we create to stop the #pipelines, #fracking, #LNG, etc.?

We have the awareness, through society, but the desire isn't there. It's opposed by status quo convenience & #BigCarbon & weak politicians.

We also have the knowledge & ability to address #climatechange in BC, but without leadership, and STARTing, we can't reinforce positive change!

Anyone ever used this kind of #bike light? Not #DynamoHub, not #FrictionGenerator, but using #magnets. 🧲💡

Are they any good? Or a waste of money? 🤔

I don't expect it to be very bright, of course. Just want to have a low-maintenance, no charging or battery replacement required, backup* tail light. I do ride at night sometimes, and I can't be checking if my battery-powered tail light is still running during my trip.

"At his international #climate summit in April (2021), President Joe Biden vowed to cut U.S. #greenhousegas emissions in half by 2030. The goal will require sweeping changes in the power generation, transportation and manufacturing sectors. It will also require a lot of land."

Oregon’s Largest Natural Gas Company Said It Was Going Green. It Sells as Much Fossil Fuel as Before.

NW Natural told Oregonians it had a new source of clean energy: renewable natural gas. Industry documents obtained by ProPublica reveal how the company has, for years, perpetuated its core fossil fuel business while painting a picture of going green.

For every 10 MW of wind power added to the system, at least 8 MW of back-up power must be dedicated. So you’re not saving on fossil fuels and often have to ADD fossil fuel plants to make up for the wind power when the wind isn’t blowing. In other words, wind needs almost 100% back-up of its maximum output. So why are we doing this? Answer: because of huge subsidies and tax breaks. Windmills wouldn’t be built without them.
