verse<p>One of the five pillars of Islam is Shahadah. A Muslim’s journey begins with Shahadah. It is a declaration of faith.</p><p><strong><a href="https://redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=8VD4uUNjWXU" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">How do I take the Shahadah? - New Muslim Q&amp;A</a> by Islamwise channel</strong></p><p>Shahadah is basically saying there is none except Allah (God) worthy of worship and Muhammad (ﷺ) is His messenger. It is usually said in Arabic accompanied by the meaning.</p><p>The Arabic version differs slightly depending on country and culture. As long the meaning is same it should be fine. The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shahada#The_testimonies" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">most popular version is this</a>:</p><blockquote><p>أشْهَدُ أنْ لا الهَ الاّ الله</p><p>أشْهَدُ أنَّ مُحَمَّداً رَسُولُ اللّه</p><p>Transliteration: ašhadu ʾan lā ʾilāha ʾilla -llāh ašhadu ʾanna muḥammadan rasūlu -llāh</p><p>Translation: I testify There is no deity but God. I testify Muhammad is the Messenger of God.</p></blockquote><p>I found another version in a Sahih Hadith source <a href="https://sunnah.com/nasai:148" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a> that has Arabic text, transliteration and meaning.</p><p>After believing it and saying it, a person becomes a Muslim. It is ideal to say it in front of 2 witnesses, but it can be said alone too in privacy.</p><p>One thing to note is that <a href="https://www.ask-a-muslim.com/en/does-islam-force-people-to-become-muslim/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">nobody can be forced to take Islam</a>. Quran says “Let there be no compulsion in religion…” (<a href="https://quran.com/2:256" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Al-Baqarah 2:256</a>). Anybody willing to take Islam has to do it voluntarily.</p><p><a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/video" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#video</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/islam" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Islam</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/shahada" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Shahada</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/shahadah" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Shahadah</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/shahadat" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Shahadat</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/pillars" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#pillars</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/faith" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#faith</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/muslim" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Muslim</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/witnesses" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#witnesses</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/alone" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#alone</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://whinge.town/tag/privacy" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#privacy</a></p>
Rabi'a Elizabeth<p>Going through pix I took a few weeks before my conversion to <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Islam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Islam</span></a> this past March, right before <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Ramadan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ramadan</span></a>. </p><p>A subtle process that began decades ago when I read "Autobiography of <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/MalcolmX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MalcolmX</span></a> " came to the fore after I moved to <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Granada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Granada</span></a> in January, and after that it didn't take long at all for me to take the plunge.</p><p>That's the <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Minaret" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Minaret</span></a> of the beautiful Mezquita Mayor in Granada below.</p><p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Mosques" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mosques</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Andalucia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Andalucia</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Albaic%C3%ADn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Albaicín</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Shahada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Shahada</span></a></p>
Rabi'a Elizabeth<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://nerdculture.de/@vogelbeere" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>vogelbeere</span></a></span> The name was suggested to me by a few brothers and sisters here in Granada, and, not knowing much of anything yet, I accepted it at my <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Shahada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Shahada</span></a>. It's an honor that they suggested it for me, and I do feel like I need to try to live up to it! </p><p>I'll be writing more about <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Sufism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sufism</span></a> in coming weeks since I just started down that path very recently.</p>
