But most fediverse server software never had them, and they've always been optional for Mastodon servers admins, who can easily extend or abolish them for their server.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/MicroBlogging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MicroBlogging</span></a>, as a medium, seems to be on its way out. Most new entrants to the 'verse (eg WordPess, Ghost) are long form.</p>

That it's dangerous. I guess with full federation, you can control who follows you using the protocol. That's nice.</p><p>But on most social networks, your posts are public. Even if people need to log in to see it, any user of that service can copy your posts to anywhere they want to. Bots can scrape them.
