Maria2000Got my Satsuma orange tree in the ground. I've never planted citrus, and these are supposed to be cold hardy to about 10F. Today has been tree planting day. <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/permies" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>permies</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/grownostr" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>grownostr</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/gardening" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>gardening</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/homesteading" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>homesteading</a> <a href="https://image.nostr.build/2e36d2c29d53d5ab4c2ccc38259d8d9d4eec152a755c190117c7364e70fc2725.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://image.nostr.build/2e36d2c29d53d5ab4c2ccc38259d8d9d4eec152a755c190117c7364e70fc2725.jpg</a>
Maria2000Enjoying this gorgeous sunny day, planted one of the tiny native plum trees that i transplanted last year. Maria2000Just got back from visiting a nursery, and that can be a dangerous thing for me. But i'm happy to have found some sweet potatoes to plant, and also a Satsuma orange tree, which i've never grown before. This variety is supposed to be pretty cold hardy. Also picked up a few little herb starts, so i'm happy with my haul. <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/permies" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>permies</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/grownostr" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>grownostr</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/gardening" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>gardening</a> <a href="https://image.nostr.build/f5138bfb74a7f31c4765002179c5f1f2f683aae675c2cb65bde7ed16b53250b3.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://image.nostr.build/f5138bfb74a7f31c4765002179c5f1f2f683aae675c2cb65bde7ed16b53250b3.jpg</a> <a href="https://image.nostr.build/446df889d125653f2b51d90449822ca1ac08ddd954525118708910bc249c755d.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://image.nostr.build/446df889d125653f2b51d90449822ca1ac08ddd954525118708910bc249c755d.jpg</a>
Maria2000Hi, welcome to nostr😊. To find topics that interest you, follow hashtags. There are many gardeners/homesteaders on nostr. Gave you a follow!
Maria2000I highly recommend a podcast called South Texas Gardening with Bob Webster, for anyone interested in gardening, permaculture, health. The show is Texas centric, but most of the topics would apply to many other locations. Its basically a radio show where Bob answers questions from callers, and you can really tell he has a giving heart and truly cares for people and their gardening issues. Super nice guy! <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/grownostr" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>grownostr</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/gardening" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>gardening</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/permies" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>permies</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/BobWebster" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>BobWebster</a>

HenryThird winter after applying the bone sauce to the unguarded trees both fruit producers a plum and a serviceberry. Four years ago the muntjac deer damaged the serviceberry so it was a favourite of his and you can see it's healing up nicely now.<br><br>Perhaps not suprisingly Sepp Holzer is right this stuff lasts for years possibly up to multiple decades after application.<br><br>Just so you know the deer is still lurking around the garden, he is eating all the herbaceous flowers instead! FreyguyWe made this greenhouse from an old carport frame by adding some poly held down with c-channel and wiggle wire. This 10x20’ greenhouse produced enough produce in a season to pay for itself. watts_barIt’s happening, Nostr! Six months ago, I decided to stop free, ranging my chickens and put them in a coop and run. One reason for this change came from a need for compost inputs. I just don’t make enough organic waste here on the Homestead to make any meaningful amount of compost.<br><br>Once a week, for six months, I scattered a bale of straw in the chicken run. The chickens got to scratch and peck for enrichment while turning their droppings into the straw for me.<br><br>Last week I moved the chickens to another area and a couple days ago I piled up the bedding in the run. The bottom couple inches was full of beautiful compost with lots of bugs and worms actively doing their job. <br><br>My compost thermometer arrived yesterday and this morning I was treated an indication that the mix is right and compost is happening. I’ll add a few perforated PVC pipes for better airflow when I turn the pile.<br><br><a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/permies" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>permies</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/homestead" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>homestead</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/compost" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>compost</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/grownostr" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>grownostr</a> <a href="https://image.nostr.build/37999d1a464afebbb22de0f262b27de943458d2aa0c70b36379a6040501d0a73.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://image.nostr.build/37999d1a464afebbb22de0f262b27de943458d2aa0c70b36379a6040501d0a73.jpg</a> <a href="https://image.nostr.build/694a6e2d1486f6d0b2dc91b2c3cce3c7b79d42dfa3b176cf380cfd0fb0752f6e.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://image.nostr.build/694a6e2d1486f6d0b2dc91b2c3cce3c7b79d42dfa3b176cf380cfd0fb0752f6e.jpg</a>

watts_barGM Nostr. Every fall I plant a winter cover crop in my garden. Today I moved my chickens onto the garden to kill the cover crop, and scratch up pests and weeds. jwaddWhoo, the weekend warrior kicked in this weekend. <br><br>Today- transplanted a couple Oak trees from the woods to the front yard. Sprinkled some cover crop seed around the front flower beds to try and inhibit the encroaching Bermuda grass. Mulched some of the garden pathways. Added cover crop seed to the raised beds (way late). Split up some comfrey and planted along the garden edge where the grass meets the garden. Trying to take more preventative steps to hold back the Bermuda. <br><br>Saturday- planted a plot of carrots and put some hay bales around to make a mini greenhouse. Planted some snap peas next to them with a clear plastic tote over them to protect from frost. Planted 2 Bing cherry trees and an Asian pear. Attempted grafting the Asian pear on some of the other pears. Started some flower seeds the kids picked out. I let them do most of the work so they can get some exp in the process. Started black locust seeds. <br><br>I am WHOOPED! <br><br><a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/garden" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>garden</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/homestead" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>homestead</a> <a class="mention hashtag" href="https://mostr.pub/tags/permies" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>#</span>permies</a>
