I have very little patience when I read something like this. A whole article with tons of pictures of people swilling in mud....and even after scrolling through all of that, I STILL I DON'T KNOW WTF Burning Man is, who sponsored it, what kind of people went there, or for what reason. Annoying!
@MMA It's kind of like the Superbowl. Sports reporters would report on the superbowl without telling people what it is, or what even football is. It's so big you're just expected to know.
Anyway, in case you're curious, it's a yearly party thrown in a temporary city out in the desert, like a big expo.
@MMA Jippity says, "Burning Man is guided by a set of principles, which include radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy. These principles encourage participants to engage actively, contribute creatively, and interact in unique and meaningful ways."
Okay, I got you....so from what you describe so eloquently, seems it's like a mix of hedonism, anarchy, and desert survival exercise that one experiences in anonymity, while using a pseudonym.
Sand and nakedness isn't the best combination (friction-- ouch!!). I think I'll take a hard pass
Thank you for explaining, love.
@MMA Well, for starters, that's not my description, it's ChatGPTs. But, from it, I have no idea how you came to the summary you did. Most of what was said is imcompatible with what you said. It sounds, to me, more like showing up to a grand party where you bring your own beer, don't judge others, talk to them, throw down some artistic expression or play some games with them, and clean up after yourself.
To each his own.
If you need to score big points by rebutting what I said to make me look like I'm stupid and can't understand something so obvious, go right ahead. It's obvious that you think it's a great thing, enough to jump into FA and give your own opinion about it.
Didn't look like anyone was cleaning up anything to me, just a lot of pigs wallowing in their own swill.
But semantics, semantics‐ My bad!:
They're communing on Maslov's highest peak and saving humanity.
@MMA There's no point-scoring, and I'm not even sure who's supposed to be keeping score. It's just a disagreement about the interpretation of what a machine said about it, not a blood sport.
I've never been to one, so I don't really know what it's like. Have you? It seems to me you saw an adverse event and are judging it based on that, not a typical "Burning Man" experience. But the point is, it's a well-known assembly, which is why the journalist didn't summarize it.
Whatever.... it's boring already. Thanks, have a nice night.
@MMA they go there for orgies and 9 days of hedonism and debauchery
