Tomorrow:

- Numbers 4-7 (dry, but adultery test & Nazirite vow are interesting)

- 1 Kings 17-20 (Elijah/Ahab/ Jezebel; Mt. Carmel)

- Psalms 79-82

- Lamentations 3 - Ezekiel 1 (Hear a tune in your head with Lamentations 3:22-24; the book of Ezekiel starts off with a bang!)

- Romans 4-7 (The "desert." Also see 6:3-6 - it's a shame some people use 1 Corinthians 1:17 to preach Paul didn't believe baptism necessary!)

@PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois @sjc @pamby1

I know I have hit this a couple of times. Baptism. Perhaps the most common and worst false teaching I can think of is that baptism isn't necessary, and that it was Paul who said so.

If I can help arm people with only one thing, it is the ability to take the double-edged sword of the Word to this killer of souls and destroy it... mercilessly.

2 Corinthians 10:5

@h53pilot @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois @sjc I was christened as a baby because I was raised Catholic. When I gave my life to Christ at age 30, I was baptized.😁

@pamby1

Without getting into any debate?

I find this fascinating.

@h53pilot @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois @sjc

@Horatio @h53pilot @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois @sjc Through a series of life-altering events, I had an undeniable spiritual awakening when I was 30. But I can tell you that I had questions in 3rd grade, in high school, in my early 20's- never answered until I met a woman who was "on fire" for Jesus. She witnessed to me for a year. Never pushing, always there to talk. When something major happened in my life, I just new instinctively to call her. She was expecting my call not

@Horatio @h53pilot @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois @sjc knowing anything. We met, talked, prayed & she led me through a " sinner's prayet. The rest, as they say, his history. Praise God!🙌

@pamby1 @Horatio @h53pilot @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois thank you, Pam, this was fascinating!

@sjc @Horatio @h53pilot @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois What's fascinating to me, is that God gas been "wooing" me my entire life. So great is His love for ALL of us. 🙌

@pamby1 @sjc @Horatio @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois

Yes. He seeks every soul. It's lifechanging when a believer discovers this.

@h53pilot
So strange. Today I was talking to my sister about baptism. I too was baptized as a baby like all Catholics. Well I’ve changed, evolved and do I now need another baptism? Call me nuts but I’ve solved my water drinking problem (I hate drinking water). When I read the Bible I drink a jar of 2 1/2 cups of water and I told my sister it’s my baptism. I’ve been doing this every morning and evening. My goal 3 times a day. @pamby1 @sjc @Horatio @PitchforkPatriot @LoveAlmonds @Lois

@KodiakIsland @h53pilot @pamby1 @sjc @Horatio @LoveAlmonds @Lois

I too was baptized by the Catholic Church as an infant and have been wondering the same thing.

@PitchforkPatriot @KodiakIsland @h53pilot @sjc @Horatio @LoveAlmonds When I was a new believer,my pastor explained it like this:the water itself doesn't do any saving-it's an outward expression of an inward commitment.We should & must be bold enough to make a public confession of Christ& baptism does that.Jesus was baptized so why wouldn't WE be?I did it as an adult because I am was making a conscious choice where I couldn't as a baby. @h53pilot would be able to explain it better biblically.

@pamby1 @PitchforkPatriot @KodiakIsland @h53pilot @sjc @Horatio @LoveAlmonds There are many opinions on this and I studied the issue myself and I don't think the bible is all that conclusive on it. I personally do not believe it is necessary to be re-baptized but I also don't think there is any harm in it. I also believe that baptism is a sign for the whole church more than for the individual. I don't think the method or the timing is that important. It's the heart that matters.

@Phil @pamby1 @PitchforkPatriot @KodiakIsland @h53pilot @sjc @Horatio @LoveAlmonds

Baptism is important, and is essential for someone who’s believed the Gospel message. Mark 16:16 would be used as a proof text by those who say that without baptism, a person isn’t saved, but Jesus Himself said that “He who believes in Me has everlasting life” - John 6:47. I wasn’t baptized immediately after I believed the Gospel, but I was definitely saved as the LORD changed me.

@Phil @ajthethird @pamby1 @PitchforkPatriot @KodiakIsland @h53pilot @sjc @Horatio @LoveAlmonds not looking for conflict. Its 100% Biblical fact if you are interested in learning more.

@biernutz_71 @ajthethird @pamby1 @PitchforkPatriot @KodiakIsland @h53pilot @sjc @Horatio @LoveAlmonds If you interpret what the bible says about baptism this way, it creates many many contradictions with what the bible says about salvation. Since the bible doesn't contradict itself, this is a very obvious misinterpretation. It comes from acts 2:38 but the emphases should be on repentance of which baptism is a sign. If baptism is required for salvation that Ephesians 2 8 and 9 are a lie.

@Phil @ajthethird @pamby1 @PitchforkPatriot @KodiakIsland @h53pilot @sjc @Horatio @LoveAlmonds the tone of this thread is not one in which I think you are open to learning anything so be blessed.

@biernutz_71
Hey biernuts I had no idea you were on FreeAtlantis. So happy to see your name. I read your brilliant comments on Duane Cates and JustHuman. You are a favorite of mine.

@KodiakIsland oh thank you! Yeah, I am on here some. I live on Just_Human TG chat and have a free substack if you care to check it out.

Kids gotta a bunch Skyline gift cards in their stockings...bet you miss that eh?

@biernutz_71
Omgoodness yes. My. My daughter went skiing in Colorado with the Cincy side of the family. They had a Skyline Chilli party.The best of the best chilli in the universe. We have it sent to us in Alaska on a regular basis. .👍😂

@Horatio He would be referencing the thief who repented at the last minute- when Jesus told him "you will be with Me in paradise".

@melmc @ajthethird @biernutz_71 @h53pilot @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

@pamby1

Pammie - I know about him.😂

But what about that other teef is the question in the end?

What happened to HIS soul?

Because he lacked faith hanging there??

I get the original lesson?

But let's re-think this one. 🤔

@melmc @ajthethird @biernutz_71 @h53pilot @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

@Horatio @pamby1 @melmc @ajthethird @biernutz_71 @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

He would have joined Jesus in the same manner as Moses, David, Abraham, etc. This was BEFORE the New Covenant, which couldn't be executed until after resurrection.

Jesus was God. And didn't lie to the thief. The thief was not, and indeed COULD not, be baptized any more than Moses or any other dead person could have that day.

@Horatio @pamby1 @melmc @ajthethird @biernutz_71 @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

The story of Lazarus (the other one) and the rich man can give insight to that.

@Horatio @pamby1 @melmc @ajthethird @biernutz_71 @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

That would be Luke 16:19–31, which is NOT the Lazarus who was the friend of Jesus. I remember that you love THAT Lazarus.

😂

@h53pilot

Thank you for remembering, because that's what friends are for, bro.👍

@pamby1 @melmc @ajthethird @biernutz_71 @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

@melmc @ajthethird @biernutz_71 @Horatio @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @pamby1 @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

He didn't. But neither did Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, etc. The thief died on the cross before Jesus commanded baptism to enter His church under the New Covenant (which was after His resurrection).

No one was baptized before the Day of Pentecost.

@biernutz_71 @melmc @ajthethird @Horatio @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @pamby1 @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

Not the same:

"I [John] baptized you with water; but He [Jesus] will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

~ Mark 1:8

John was not baptizing in Jesus's name:

Peter: "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and

***you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit***"

~ Acts 2:38

@biernutz_71 @melmc @ajthethird @Horatio @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @pamby1 @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

That baptism by John was not for salvation. Paul makes this clear:

"And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."

~ Acts 19:3–5

@biernutz_71 @melmc @ajthethird @Horatio @KodiakIsland @LoveAlmonds @pamby1 @Phil @PitchforkPatriot @sjc

So perhaps I should clarify and say that:

"No one was baptized into Christ's kingdom (His church) until after Pentecost."

That's the baptism Jesus commanded... after His resurrection.

John's baptism was not commanded.
