The Bible reading for this week will be chapters 1 and 2 of:
- Genesis
- Joshua
- Job
- Isaiah
- Matthew
For those new to this format, the Bible has been divided into 5 sections...
(No tags in the rest of the thread to preserve writing space and reduce length. I'll tag on the last one as well.)
1. Law of Moses, or Pentateuch (Genesis thru Deuteronomy)
2. History (Joshua thru Esther)
3. Poetry (Job thru Song of Solomon)
4. Prophets (Isaiah thru Malachi)
5. New Testament (Matthew thru Revelation)
Reading it this way gives us a view of the Word of God as a whole unit.
It also breaks up the monotony of some of the "less interesting" areas and even better identifies their purposes... as there are no excess words in the Word of God. Genealogies come to mind here...
The main focus on this iteration is learning the nature of God so that we can develop a closer personal relationship with Him.
He DOES live inside us, as Christians.
To have a meaningful relationship with anyone requires us to know them well.
God is no different. And, lucky for us, He reveals His personal nature to us throughout scripture.
In fact, if we read John 1 verses 1, 2, and 14, and believe them, the Word IS God.
Heavy concept. But let's read this passage:
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God...
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Notice the Word is God (verse 1)
and is also "He," (verse 2),
who became flesh and dwelt among us (verse 14).
So, Jesus was a manifestation of God in the flesh. God the Son, to be exact...
Jesus throughout the Gospels confesses to this and was crucified solely because of that confession (Matthew 26:63–66).
The Bible is also a manifestation of the Word of God.
It is all that God has revealed about Himself. Who God is can be found nowhere else. We know nothing about God's nature except that which He has revealed to us.... through God the Son.
These are the readings we are doing for the Sunday School class I am teaching. I will share some of the lesson material here each week...
I look forward to sharing this with you and hope you all get something out of it.
I'll plan on starting that tomorrow.
God Bless.
