The way I heard it, Antarctic ice caps are growing because Antarctica is too cold to *ever* actually melt, and (whether man-made or not) there is more precipitation which is turning into snow and ice in Antartica...

I think weather stations have been able to demonstrate that there is some warming going on over the last century, not cooling.

That said, it's generally accepted that earth has had incredibly violent temperature cycles (e.g. ice age, medieval warm period, ...) in the past so:

1. Claims that the climate will run away in some global warming chain reaction or else somehow destroy all life on earth are self-evidently quack nonsense.

2. The theory that *this time* the climate is changing due to human intervention is quite dubious because it requires elimination of all possible natural causes, which requires understanding them all.

There are things which might very possibly be real, but can't be meaningfully studied because there are just too many variables. A lot of alternative medicine falls in this category, which is why mainstream medical journals don't accept papers about it - so the alt medicine people make their own journals.

The climate people are a bit the same thing, meteorology journals are not interested in what is arguably idle conjecture on the causes of temperature changes over time, so the climate people created "climate science" journals where they could send their papers.

Now the claim that "the science is settled" is incredibly disingenuous because the entire field of research was invented just for the purpose of substantiating a pre-conceived conclusion.

But the biggest red flag for the whole climate science community is its tenancy to attract shady royals, philanthropists, and other assorted psychopaths. Am I supposed to take a field of research seriously when 9 out of 10 people involved in it belong in a guillotine?
