Progress at last on the airship envelope. I'm making a model in #FreeCAD of the airship from Splinter Town Fall.
I had some trouble making it hollow, then cutting the windows. This is my fourth attempt. When I abandoned attaching the window outlines to the model faces (as shown in every tutorial), things stopped breaking!
I have the engine nacelles ready to attach, but first I'll work on the interior - I'm hoping to find a program that will let me walk through the whole model. Attaching a hundred and twenty 60,000 cubic ft gas bags to an internal frame is going to be interesting...
Rock solid and imho quite pretty.
Since I've come across some camera lenses with missing caps, I've designed a #parametric model in #FreeCAD.
Just enter the filter thread size (and optionally thread pitch, spring width/thickness, and some other variables), et voilà: lens cap.
The first prototypes are already working quite well. The model just needs some minor tweaks before it is ready to be released into the wild.
Ripped the door knob off the door to access the eaves. Thought about buying a replacement but then I realised I had #freecad and a #3dprinter
My lamp design is coming nicely. Also testing Assembly wb in the mean time. #Freecad Friday.
This #FreeCADFriday, I am using @FreeCAD to design a 3d-printable laser optic mount system for interferometry experiments!
The main element are the kinematic mounts for precisely aligning all the optics. I have opted to use a flexure based design which required a lot of prototyping to get right (and there is still a lot of room for improvement...).
@FreeCAD I designed two OpenGrid tool holder for my workbench.

@FreeCAD My TV soundbar broke, because of a bad chip, so I wanted to repurpose the speaker parts, and the subwoofer, into a portable speaker. So I have been drawing up a "blaster" in FreeCAD with parts that will fit on my 3D printer. Biggest project yet. So far it is going pretty good. The amplifier I had unfortunately didnt work. So it is a bit on pause for now.

It's #FreeCADFriday! Happy weekend to everyone when we get there. What have you all been working on with #FreeCAD?
Forged in FreeCAD: CERN CMS Detector Cable Clamps
In case it passed you by, over on our mastodon account and on the X platform we have run the hashtag #FreeCADFriday for a long time. It's a straightforward "show everyone what you are up to with FreeCAD" type affair and every week so many amazing projects show up as responses.

@FreeCAD software has been vital in helping me design and build my own weaving loom.
Planning out the parts and measurements. And designing parts for 3D printing. The project is making great progress.
work in progress V 2.0 ... (still _a_lot_of_work left ... )
#FreeCadFriday This has been my first full week using FreeCAD. I've made so many mistakes, so many retries, but also some progress!
I'm working on a model of the Zeppelin-like airship from one of my novels - I hope eventually to import it into a program that will let me walk through it.
Having some trouble getting rotation joints to stick, but here's a screenshot of one of the engine nacelles.

Happy #FreeCADFriday everyone! Hope you all have a grand weekend. Show us what you've been up too with #FreeCAD. #CAD #CAM #BIM
