"The easiest way to divide a population is by sex. It’s 50-50, right down the middle. If you can create a schism between men & women, the rest of the society will follow. That’s why the Russian government and its fascist American collaborators have been intentionally promoting a culture of misogyny — as well as its racist, antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ+ counterparts — which actively strip people of empathy."

#Trump asked #JanetMills, who attended Friday’s event, whether she would direct her state to follow the order. #Maine’s governing body for high school sports, the Maine Principal’s Assn, previously said it would not bar #transgender athletes from competing on teams that match their #gender #identity, citing a state anti-#discrimination #law preventing the organization from doing so.

“I’m complying with state & federal law,” Mills responded.

“Mississippi, a state known for its rich culture and strong heritage, also faces some of the nation’s most glaring health disparities. Among them is the inequity in cervical-cancer prevention and treatment, which is often shaped by racism and systemic discrimination in health care,” writes Barbara Rose Brooks for @msfreepress. The solutions: Investments in community health clinics and cultural competency training, which would allow all Mississippians equal access to preventative health care.

Education Department “Lifting the Pause” on Some Civil Rights Probes, but Not for Race or Gender Cases

A memo to the department’s Office for Civil Rights reveals that the agency will allow “only disability-based discrimination” cases to proceed. Thousands of outstanding complaints will continue to sit idle.

In an editorial for @msfreepress, Kiden-Aloyse Smith discusses “Hood Feminism” by Mikki Kendall, and why its messaging around race and intersectionality is particularly resonant right now. “Despite Black folks making up 14% of the U.S. population, we make up 40% of missing-person cases for people under age 18,” she writes. “Black women’s and children’s cases are left untouched for decades — marked as runaways, marked as unworthy, marked as the ‘imperfect victim.’ When little Black girls go missing, it’s a deafening silence with a reminder that maybe if we were ‘good’ girls or white girls, we’d be found.”

🌖Tues Feb 18, 6:30pm (London UTC)🌗
Chris Knight talks on
'How we got stuck: The hunter Monmanecki and his wives can teach Graeber and Wengrow a lesson'

'The Dawn of Everything' argues that human political arrangements got stuck when divine kings and other patriarchal despots began to confuse paternal care with coercive control. Drawing on insights provided by an Amazonian myth, #ChrisKnight argues that the decisive changes occurred much earlier than Graeber and Wengrow suppose. Gender politics got stuck when patriarchal forms of marriage and residence took over, disconnecting women from their former freedom to choose where to live – a freedom in turn linked with the periodicity of the moon.

Chris will be LIVE in the Daryll Forde, 2nd Floor of UCL Anthropology Dept. Come in good time by 6:30pm before doors close please. You can also join on ZOOM ID 384 186 2174 passcode Wawilak

To be crystal-clear:
Topics like #TransRights #Trans #Gender #Queer are no afterthoughts, they are the foundation of the whole endeavor.

#SafeguardingResearch started with me (@lavaeolus) cloning GitHub-repos of 'Mapping the Gay Guides' (with their consent) on January 15th.
After that, I asked my buddy @micr0 to write a scraper for academia.edu, inspired by @bookandswordblog, to download as many things mentioning #transgender #nonbinary #intersex #queer etc. as possible.

The rest is history.

“[The witch hunts] are forcing the [feminism] movement underground, in a country where gender discrimination is still deeply entrenched. SouthKorea has the largest gender pay gap in the OECD, a group of the world's rich countries.”

What a surprise..... the fashion industry, gladly no doubt pointing to the availability of weight loss medications, has seemingly rejected its (fleeting) acceptance of body positivity & the use of 'real women' to go back to its tradition of using ultra-thin models, despite a long record of abuse of such models to get them to them to be thin-enough...

Its a retrograde step driven by a desire to control women's bodies... justified by dodgy aesthetics!
