We see so many reports about israeli captives but Palestinian captives and prisoners are another, non viral, story. The literally #warcrimes against health sector and personnel of #Gaza are still ignored by international community.

"Many days I was tied to a chair in the interrogation room for maybe 15 hours. I was not allowed to sleep or eat or drink. They tied my arms to the chair very painfully and when they were beating me they would put their hands or legs on my chest to bend my back."
"Throughout this period, while we were being transferred, we were given severe, brutal beatings all over our bodies. I suffered bone fractures on my right side, which affected me greatly all the way through the first three or four months of detention. I never got any medical care."
"They asked me my name and my profession and when I said I was a doctor they handcuffed and blindfolded me....We were all put in a transport vehicle where we were beaten with sticks. They urinated on us."
"I spent almost three months in Ofer. The food they gave us were small pieces of bread with a small amount of yoghurt and a spoon of jam."

The Guardian · ‘They forced me to stand for hours in the cold, arms raised and shackled’: eight Gaza doctors on their Israeli prison ordealBy Aseel Mousa

Al Jazeera has been reporting on the release of 46 Palestinian women and minors by Israeli authorities on Thursday. We spoke with members of the group, some of whom were taken from Gaza months ago.

Conditions in Israeli detention were grim, according to Anas Khishan, one of the freed detainees.

“[Prisoners] suffer from scabies. There’s no hygiene, no nothing. Thank God, we are free,” he told Al Jazeera.

Nidaa Abu Sahloul said her son had lost so much weight that he was unrecognisable to family and friends.

“[My son] Muhammad lost so much weight, I didn’t recognise him. I saw him calling out to me, but I didn’t recognise him,” she said.

By the time #Trump assumed power, #Zuckerberg was lavishing him w/praise. “We now have a US admin that is proud of our leading companies,” he gushed of the man who had…threatened him w/ #prison, “that prioritizes American technology winning. And that will defend our values & interests abroad.” His rehabilitation complete, Zuckerberg assumed a place of pride at Trump’s inauguration, alongside #JeffBezos, #ElonMusk, & other [#oligarchs].…

Because #Trump had recently warned, “We are watching [Zuckerberg] closely, & if he does anything *illegal*” during Trump’s 2nd term, “he will spend the rest of his life in #prison,” this opportunity must have sounded enticing. #Zuckerberg indicated that he would not in any way obstruct Trump’s agenda, acc/to the Times, & foisted blame for any prior offenses onto subordinates.

Most of the #oligarchs submitted, but those who didn’t went to #prison or into #exile, lest they fall prey to the country’s epidemic of window-plunging deaths. (Khodorkovsky was imprisoned, putatively for fraud & tax evasion, but really for supporting independent media & opposition parties.) Since then, affinity for #Putin has been a sine qua non of high-level economic success in Russia.

Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) revealed in a recent report the horrific #abuse suffered by medical workers from Gaza in Israeli prisons during the war, including #beatings, #torture, medical neglect, and deprivation of proper food.

The report includes testimonies from 24 Palestinian detainees, gathered by lawyers from “Physicians for Human Rights” who visited Israeli #military detention facilities.

A 38-year-old nurse recounted the horrific conditions she endured, describing being suspended by her wrists from the ceiling, with her legs twisted behind her. During her interrogation at Ofer #Prison, she was subjected to further cruelty: she was spat on, burned with cigarettes, and had hot coffee poured over her body.

This sounds like an extraordinary memoir!

As a teenager, Tanya Smith stole bank reserves over the phone to help friends and neighbors pay off overdue utility bills. When the F.B.I. derided her, saying Black people "don’t have the brains" to pull off complex heists, she taught herself to hack computers and went on to steal tens of millions from banks and casinos in a multi-year crime spree

In New Jersey, there’s no legal mechanism for judges to take into account whether a defendant suffered abuse that may have been a factor in their committing a crime. Seventy-two percent of first-time offenders imprisoned for a violent crime in the state’s women’s prison were abused by their victim. While Governor Phil Murphy has granted clemency to some people, The ACLU of New Jersey and other groups are now advocating for a legislative fix. @bolts takes a look at the issue.

oh it's far worse than just a #deportation scheme

#NayibBukele (President of #ElSalvador):

"We have offered the #UnitedStates of #America #USA the opportunity to outsource part of its #prison system.

We are willing to take in only #convicted #criminals (including convicted #US #citizens) into our mega-prison (#CECOT) in exchange for a fee.

The fee would be relatively low for the U.S. but significant for us, making our entire prison system sustainable."

The Prison Journalism Project trains incarcerated people to be writers so they can tell important stories from prison, and attain new skills before they re-enter society. Here's a first-person account by Vaughn Wright from State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, about what it was like to become part of the biggest crime story in the nation, when Luigi Mangione came to stay.
