Last night I went to a candlelight #vigil for blah blah #Trump shit in a gazebo in a small town park. I live in a #smallTown (~20K people). There were 30-50 in attendance. I'm 55 and was one of the younger people. There were songs and brief speeches. Talk of how we will vote like crazy next time, etc. It was over in 40 minutes (remember: old people).
I couldn't stop thinking that the League of Women Voters (the organizing body) was hopelessly on the back foot. These people, many of whom I know and protested with during Trump 1, seem to be under the impression we merely have an awful president.
I was crying as I left. I hope I'm wrong, but I couldn't stop thinking
Trump keeps making batshit/hateful "pronouncements" via #ExecutiveOrders, #twitter, and #TruthSocial.
Many/most of those represent violations of law/ #constitution and always arrogation of powers that are legally held by #Congress or #SCOTUS.
Nobody is stopping him.
What do you call a system of government where one asshole says whatever shit comes to his mind or makes him wealthier or makes him more powerful, and he always gets what he wants?
I was crying as I left. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we're in a #dictatorship, now. I think we have a chance to save ourselves from this as a long-term situation, but who is going to do that? Not the #Republicans, who are desperate to kiss Trump's ass harder than each other. And not the #Democrats, if all we do is have 40-minute candlelight vigils in out-of-the-way parks where nobody will be inconvenienced or even have to be aware of what we're doing.
