My router is getting a bit cranky. I have tried to find some that one can put openwrt on. I've seen some "best of" lists, but can't seem to find the specific models here in Sweden. I only use wifi for my phone, don't need some super duper range nor speed to fry my brain. Can one somehow attach (usb?) something to a wire-only router, to just get some basic wifi? Would that even work in openwrt? Greatful for some suggestions for this non-geek with brainfog. Thank you
They make dongles for wi-fi, I use it for my tablet. They are cheap and small usb port.
@Bleukitty Yes, but if it is attached to the router it would be rather different, I guess? At the server end, so to speak.
I have no clue. I have an Ethernet connected to the router, yet that is a hard wire.
I use it when my dongle dies and waiting for a new one. My dear dh set this up in the living room behind the couch for my tablet.
@Bleukitty I use linux, and the last time i got an usb wifi dongle, I ahd a bit hard time to find oen that would work. I mean indications it would before I bought it.
I have never worked using Linux, so my ignorance is high there.
SO the setup U are going for is router without wifi, cable connection to Ur PC and then some way to use Ur pc as a hotspot for Ur phones?
Am thinking, is there a difference if the wifi signal is emoted from Ur Pc instead of directly from a router?
Was thinking to get one of those tp link without eifi and connect my pc to the power line.
But that would not solve Ur wifi to phone.
@EvolLove Didn't think of using my pc as hot spot. But it is not on as often as the router. Could work as emergency, but thats all. @Bleukitty
I am an even lesser geek than U. Because I don't even understand what U are trying to do
I am sorry for degrading the already low standards. As I grow old I will look for future generations to fix my mess.
Always tried to be a nerd but too lazy to actually learn something. I am just happy when I accidentally makes things work.
I am at a level where I have some idea of what is possible. It is the getting there that is my problem.
Once I get things to work I do not change anything. Even routine updates scares me.
@Bleukitty Same.
Computers quickly became 2nd nature to me, and I became successful as a contractor assisting in law firms until I got preggers.
@EvolLove That made me laugh, and some coffee went down the wrong pipe, lol. That's how I learn, too. @Bleukitty @inscius
