'After arresting #MahmoudKhalil, #ICE supervisory special agent Moran in NY presented Khalil w/a notice to appear at #immigration court inside an LA detention center.The notice said he could be deported based on §237(a)(4)(C)(i) of the Immigration & Nationality Act: “the Secy of #State has reasonable ground to believe that your presence or activities in the US would have potentially serious adverse #ForeignPolicy consequences for the US.”

#MahmoudKhalil’s lawyers appeared in federal court Wed morning, after filing papers urging a judge to release the student or return him to NY, days after #immigration agents arrested him at his apt & moved him to a detention center in Louisiana 1,300 miles away. The #Trump admin has said it will target *noncitizens* protesting the war between #Israel & #Hamas, which has led to campus protests across the US, while opponents say the govt is trampling on the #FirstAmendment right to #FreeSpeech.
