#Rafah crossing to reopen
The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza is reopening for the first time in eight months as part of the ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel.
Initially, the crossing will be used for medical evacuations, and the World Health Organization said 50 patients will be allowed to leave Gaza for treatment abroad later today.
The Rafah crossing is a lifeline for Palestinians in Gaza where Israel has enforced a land, sea and air blockade for 18 years.
The European Union has restarted its civilian mission to monitor the border crossing between Gaza and Egypt at Rafah, according to the bloc’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas.
“The EU’s civilian border mission deploys today to the Rafah Crossing at the request of the Palestinians and the Israelis. It will support Palestinian border personnel and allow the transfer of individuals out of Gaza, including those who need medical care.”
Rafah destruction
Israeli attacks have:
Destroyed 80 percent of homes, more than 80 percent of municipal buildings and at least half of the water wells.
Damaged 70 percent of sewage facilities.
Wrecked 291 kilometres (181 miles) of road.
Destroyed 81 mosques, four schools, four hospitals and nine medical centres.
Razed thousands of dunams of farmland and greenhouses.

#Biden halted delivery of the large bombs in May as part of an effort to keep Israel from launching an all-out assault on the southern #Gaza city of #Rafah. A month later, Israel did take control of the city, but after the vast majority of the 1M #civilians that had been living or sheltering in Rafah had fled.

The Hind Rajab Foundation: Rabbi Zarbiv's Crimes in #Gaza: The #HRF filed a complaint with the #ICC demanding the arrest of Rabbi Avraham Zarbiv for war crimes & crimes against humanity in Gaza. Zarbiv admitted to destroying homes, targeting civilians, and obliterating entire neighborhoods like #Jabalia & #Rafah.
Rabbi Zarbiv's crimes are well-documented through his own public admissions and video #evidence. On January 22, 2025, Zarbiv appeared in a televised interview where he openly admitted to:
- Destroying 50 buildings per week in Gaza, targeting private homes, schools, hospitals, and aid facilities.
- Participating in the complete destruction of entire neighborhoods, such as Jabalia, Rafah, and other towns.
- Publicly inciting violence and hatred, including endorsing the killing of Palestinian civilians and the obliteration of their communities.
- In the interview, Zarbiv boasted about "playing" on a D9 bulldozer, describing the deliberate demolition of homes and the obliteration of Gaza’s infrastructure. He confirmed the Givati Brigade's systematic targeting of civilian areas and its role in rendering entire towns uninhabitable.
- Additionally, video evidence dated February 7, 2024, shows Zarbiv and his team throwing hand grenades and firing at unarmed Palestinian civilians in Khan Yunis.
These acts constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law.
I guess Germans and Polish guards will be recruited for the Israeli Auschwitz: Haaretz on the #Israeli Prime Minister: #Palestinian entities other than #Hamas will manage the #Rafah crossing under the supervision of the #European Union.
Israeli Prime Minister: Anyone traveling through the #Rafah crossing must obtain prior approval from the army and the Shin Bet.
