@LaughterintheRain Good point. @SweetIceTea @Phil @Bleukitty @h53pilot @Andre
@pamby1 @LaughterintheRain @SweetIceTea @Phil @Bleukitty @h53pilot @Andre I was a kid in the 70s, and most of us missed 2 weeks due to chicken pox, mumps and measles over the course of grades 1 thru 5.
@conservativechris @LaughterintheRain @SweetIceTea @Phil @Bleukitty @h53pilot @Andre Me too. I got chicken pox @ 5, before I started school.
My VA doctor keeps trying to talk me into the shingles vaccine. Nope.
Anyone else get that talking to?

@h53pilot @conservativechris @LaughterintheRain @SweetIceTea @Phil @Bleukitty @Andre My dr has never mentioned that. I did get a tetanus shot about 2-3 yrs ago. Is shingles pretty common?
To hear them talk it is pretty common. Never known anyone with shingles, though. If you've had chickenpox, then you can get shingles.
Anyone else (as in not from a doctor) know how common shingles is?

I'm pretty cautious about vaccines in general. But soon after I turned 50, I had my butt down to the Walgreens. Shingles gets much worse as you age. If you get the illness in your 50's, say, it's not too bad. I had a neighbor who got it in his 70's and it really screwed him up for a long while. *Very* painful and you can risk your sight if the rash gets near an eye, which it often does.

And, yes, I think it's common in the elders and those with weakened immunity. So, if you get one disease bc of weakened immunity, shingles can add insult to injury. Double whammy.
